Benefits of Sheep's Clothing

Sheep are comfortable in their skin all day long. The fibers of their fleece protect their bodies from the extreme seasons of Australia and New Zealand. Fleece acts as an insulator against the harsh heat of summer and cold chill of winter.

The spring-like quality of each fiber allows sheepskin to act as a spring between you and the surface you are sitting on. This means that in addition to the added cushion, air is always able to flow between you and any surface. This makes sheepskin great as seat covers and extremely beneficial for medical needs.

In medical situations, sheepskin is able to absorb sweat immediately and can releaseit in to the air seven times faster than synthetics. Sheepskin activates the immune system, supporting the relaxation and regeneration of the body as well as increasing blood circulation. Natually ocurring lanolin is similar to the natural substances found in human skin, for this reason it is gentle on your skin, aiding in rejeneration of sensitive andinflamed skin as well as rashes.

Sheepskin is dirt and bacteria resistant. It has been known for centuries that the lanolin in natural sheepskin provides it with a self cleaning quality when the sheepskin is hung in fresh air.

Sheepskin will not give off an electrical charge. Synthetic seat covers are a 100% insulator of electrical energy. All natural sheepskin is a partial insulator providing you undisturbed release of static electricity created by the natural friction of your body and the environment.

All Seasons and All Occassions

Sheepskin Car Seat Covers: You'll keep yourself comfortable and temperature controlled no matter the weather outside. The hollow, sping-like fibers are extremely soft, and provide a comfortable cushion of air that acts as a temperature insulator. With sheepskin seat covers, vinyl and leather seats will never be too hot or too cold. In addition, sheepskin seat covers will protect your seats from the usual spills, smudges and sharp objects. Sheepskin is easier and less costly to reapir than the seats of your car.

Medical Sheepskin: Medical sheepskin is tanned specifically to be machine washable and safe for direct skin contact. More importantly, medical sheepskin can prevent bedsores and greatly reduce the affects for someone that may already have them. Sheepskin's fleece acts like a spring to cushion sensative areas, promoting air-flow and blood circulation in the skin. Bedsores, also known as pressure sores or pressure ulcers, are areas of damaged skin and tissue that develop when sustained pressure (usually from a bed or wheelchair) cuts off circulation to vulnerable parts of your body. Without adequate blood flow, the affected tissue dies and can lead to lethal infections. People in wheelchairs most commonly see pressure ulcers in the shoulder blades, spine, elbows, tailbone, buttocks, and the backs of the arms and legs. Bed-bound individuals can have pressure sores on their head, ears, shoulders, shoulder blades, elbows, tailbone, hips, sides of knees, ankles and toes. When your sheepskin needs to be cleaned, simply throw it in the washingmachine with a mild detergent (not Woolite) on warm and then air dry on a flat surface.

Apparel: Sheepskin hats, gloves/mittens and slippers are the perfect way to keep warm and toasty during the cold winter months. But did you know that sheepskin can be worn throughout the year? The spring-like fibers of sheepskin allow air to flow around your head, hands and feet, keeping you at a more contastant temperature. This is why you will see people at the beach wearing sheepskin boots or slippers. Surfers found that sheepskin boots would protect their feet from the hot sand, while also keeping a contastant and pleasurable temperature.

Care & Storage

Cleaning/Drying: To spot clean your sheepskin, simply use a damp cloth and a mild detergent. For a more thorough cleaning, we strongly recommend dry cleaning by a leather care professional. If you prefer to wash your sheepskin by hand or in a machine, use cold water along with a sheepskin specific detergent. Please take note: by hand or machine washing your sheepskin, the appearance of the color, fleece and leather may be affected. Sheepskin is best line dried out of direct sunlight. During the drying process, the leather of the sheepskin will need to be stretch to maintain its shape and size.

Maintinance: Your sheepskin requires minimal effort to maintain its look and luster. To revive the appearance of your sheepskin, after cleaning or otherwise, take a crimped brush (such as a pet brush) and run it thoroughly through the fleece making sure to get to the leather to pull up dirt and particles. Once the dirt and particles have been brought to the surface vacuum using the extension of your vacuum. This process will clean your sheepskin while also reviving the posture of the fleece.

Storage: It is best to store your sheepskin in a dry area out of the direct rays of the sun. The UV rays of the sun can damage the fibers and the dye colors of your sheepskin. Wet and damp conditions can degrade the quality of the leather.
